Our sub-conscious mind accepts whatever we choose to believe. What we choose to believe about our life becomes true for us. We have unlimited choices about what we can think.
The Universe doesn’t judge us or criticize us. It’s our free will choice to choose positive or negative. Whatever our choice is, the Universe reflects the same. If we want to believe that we are lonely and nobody loves us then, guess what? The Universe will reflect this thinking and this is exactly what our life is going to look like. However, if we are ready to release that belief and we affirm “Love is all around me. I am loving. I am lovable” then the Universe reflects this by surrounding us with loving people. New people who love us could come into our lives, people already in our lives will love us more. Added to that we will get very good at expressing our love to others. Are you ready to start conveying loving thoughts to yourself and others? Go to a mirror. Look into your eyes and say “I love you. I really, really love you.” This is not about judging your looks. This is about looking into your eyes, trusting that you will find a beautiful person inside and out. So, weird as it may seem at the beginning, don’t give up. Continue looking into your eyes and say “I love you. I really, really love you.” Say it as many times as you can every day. Make it a habit to say something nice to yourself every time you see your reflection. Become your own cheerleader. Complement yourself, praise yourself, tell yourself how good you are. The Universe will reflect what you are thinking. You will notice how things will shift within you and around you as you think, feel and say positive things to yourself and others. You will cease judging yourself and others. The Universe will become a very happy place for you. Go on, talk to yourself in the mirror. In the infinity of life, where I am, all is perfect, whole and complete. As I let go of judgement, I become happier and healthier. It is only a thought and a thought can be changed. I am my best friend. All is well. Next week, we will explore the belief “Many of us have rigid rules about how life ought to be lived”. Until then, Namaste 😊

In last week’s blog, I had written that I would be sharing information about the beliefs that we explore in Heal Your Life workshops.
We will start by looking at how life reflects what we think. Louise Hay says “What we think about ourselves becomes the truth for us.” How many times have you thought “on Wednesday (or any day) this week, I will take a sick day off from work because I am overworked and need a break”? What happens on that day? Have you actually experienced some pain? Even if you have not experienced this yourself, you can ask around and you will hear it from somebody. We always create our situations and then we try to find somebody to blame. No person, place or thing has any power over us. Only We have that power because We are the only thinkers in our mind. Does any of this sound like you?
If you are thinking like the above that is exactly what your experience will be. You will always interact with people who are not supportive; you will never feel perfect. You will blame others in your life for all the apprehensions you have about yourself and your life. It is time to let go of all blame – of yourself and of others. If you change the above to positive thinking, you will sound like this.
It’s easy to change our thinking when we consciously choose to do so. Notice by changing negative thoughts to positive thoughts, our reality becomes very joyous. We will be surrounded by people who have our best interests at heart. We will love the way we look. We will love life. Life is that easy and simple. All it takes is a change in one’s thinking. The effect of positive thinking is profound and we will notice it as unconditional love for self and for others; joy, peace, harmony, good health, prosperity etc. In the infinity of life, where I am, all is perfect, whole and complete. I acknowledge the power of my mind and am willing to create a joyous life. As I change my thinking, my life changes and wonders unfold in many ways. Life is simple. I Love Life and Life Loves me. All is well in my world. Next week, we will look into how “The Universe totally supports us in every thought we choose to think and believe”. Namaste 😊 I have been asked what Heal Your Life workshops are many times. I thought it will be great to write what this is about as a series of articles and share my perspective with you.
Many of you may have read Louise Hay’s “You can Heal Your Life”. Heal Your Life workshops are based on Louise Hay’s teachings from the book. The focus is always on loving ourselves. This is done through a series of exercises, meditation etc., in the workshop. Some of the beliefs that we explore in the workshop are below and I will write about them in this series.
As you read the above, know that whatever you are thinking is a thought and thoughts can be changed. Positive, nurturing thoughts will support you in achieving your dreams and desires. I leave you with some wise words from Louise Hay. “You have the power to heal your life, and you need to know that. We think so often that we are helpless, but we’re not. We always have the power of our minds… Claim and consciously use your power.” Today, I would like to share with you a lesson in kindness that I learnt from my paternal grandmother twenty odd years ago. I called her Pati, which means grandma in Tamil.
My cousin’s family was traveling to my father’s ancestral village for a festival. They had room for two more people in their car. So, Pati and I set off with them for what promised to be a fun-filled day. We set off early in the morning. It takes about three to four hours to get to the village from Bangalore, where we lived. We stopped for breakfast in a picnic area and had a feast, thanks to my cousin’s wife who is an amazing cook. Once we had eaten to our heart’s content, we continued on our journey. We stopped at a temple on the way. As we entered the temple premises, I noticed that there were a number of people seeking alms from the visitors. Most of them were elderly; there were also some young people with children. We proceeded to pray in the temple and offered fruits to God that the priest prayed upon and returned to us. We came out of the temple’s inner sanctum and shared the fruit with the people there who were seeking help. At this time, Pati handed me a large handkerchief in which there were coins. She had tied the four corners together to make a pouch. She asked me to go to all the people seeking alms and give each of them some coins. She did not judge them. She just helped them because they needed help. I was taught a very valuable lesson that day – to be kind to everybody, just because we all need love and kindness; we don’t need judgement. Pati was not a wealthy person in financial terms. She was wealthy beyond measure in her heart and that came out as kindness and generosity, demonstrated to me through this act of sharing what money she had brought with her that day. I will always remember Pati’s kindness and love. The Universe needs angels like my Pati and we are all capable of being kind and loving. How does it feel to be a person who knows everything? Or is there such a person at all?
I was preparing okra stir fry (hailing from South India, we stir fry almost all vegetables 😊) a few days ago and took a trip down memory lane – to the first time I stir fried okra. I was in my teens, wanted to impress my parents and started making okra stir fry just like I had seen my mum make it. Everything was going smoothly until I added salt to the stir fry. There were two types of salt on the shelf – rock salt and table/powdered salt. I chose rock salt. The okra was already cooked and was quite dry when I added the rock salt. I waited for the salt to liquefy and nothing happened. I covered the stir fry with a lid so it could steam still, the crystals remained. I knew adding water to okra would make it slimy, so I didn’t do that. My parents came home and I showed the stir fry to mum. Mum explained that I had to use table salt in this case. Hmm…lesson learnt but I felt disappointed that I didn’t know how to make this dish. I thought I didn’t know anything. From there to now, I can stir fry okra beautifully and cook quite a few dishes. I was thinking of the teenage okra cook and came up with a few messages to my younger self. I would like to tell her that she will learn a lot of things in this life time and will accomplish quite a few things. I would tell her not to be disappointed and the knowledge that she requires to lead a wonderful life will be provided to her continuously. There is never a “know it all” situation. It’s always take one step and the next step will be shown. I would tell her to be brave and trust that the infinite wisdom of this Universe will guide her not just with cooking okra but with everything else that she will experience. I would tell her that she will be fine and that I love her. One of the most important ways that we can look after ourselves is by learning to say No to things that don’t really matter so much to us on our life journey.
You may be thinking you are saying Yes to Life by saying Yes to many things that come your way. It could be an invitation to a dinner, an opportunity to go on a holiday with a friend. The question is, are you true to yourself when you say Yes. Are you saying Yes because you enjoy dining with the people who have invited you or you saying Yes because you feel obligated? If you feel your time would be better spent doing something else other than going to dinner, then you are right. Or do you feel excited about that dinner invitation? Life provides us with many opportunities – some of them are things we want to experience; some of them that we don’t feel inclined to do but feel we will let down others by not embracing the opportunity. How many times have we all done the latter? Just because we feel obligated, we take on things that do not support us on our journey of being true to ourselves. This may be at work where you are asked to take on an additional assignment when your day is already full with projects that are in full swing. When we don’t feel good about doing something, we are not only doing a dis-service to ourselves but also to those who are near and dear to us. When we do something that we don’t want to, we usually end up in a foul mood and that feeling spreads like wild fire within ourselves and transfers to our families. Saying No is hard for most of us. But we can learn how to say No to things that don’t really matter to us. You can start with little things like declining invitations to coffee or dinner if you don’t feel right about it. This will not make us bad. On the contrary, Life is always about choices and this is a choice we can make to feel good. It’s important to check in with the “feeling” side within us now and then and say NO to things that don’t matter to us so as to not feel overwhelmed with what is in front of us. Success is defined as “the accomplishment of an aim or a purpose”, according to the Oxford dictionary.
Success meant various things to me at different stages of my life. When I was at school, success to me was getting good grades because that was the aim of going to school. When I started my work life, success meant becoming financially secure and to this end, working long hours were considered very normal by me. Once my family included a child, success meant achieving work-life balance so I could spend time with my child and continue building my career, which at the time was in IT. Today, if you asked what success means to me, I will say success is about feeling good inside; it is not about getting good grades, becoming financially secure or getting a work-life balance. Anything that I do, as long as I feel good about it within myself ensures I am successful. I no longer look at my success through other people’s eyes. When I made a conscious shift from a corporate job to becoming a Life Coach, I gave my dreams wings. The result is that I feel great inside. I feel very successful. How do you define success? Do you feel good about your life? Are there any changes you can make to ensure you are happy and you feel good? Maybe, it’s an art class that you always wanted to take. Maybe you wanted to learn to dance or sing or sew or cook or write. Whatever it is that you wanted to always do but never found time to, see if you can create some time to do it. You can start small with just a few minutes of each day and build it up. Notice how happy this will make you feel, how successful you will see yourself as 😊 In February this year, hail as big as golf balls came raining down where I live. My car was parked outside! After the hail storm passed, we checked the car and noticed dents all over. I rang the insurance company and was asked to bring the car in for assessment. Once assessed, I was given a date in April for bringing my car in for servicing.
April came and I took my car to the repairer. I was told it will take 12 business days to fix my car and I will be contacted if it is ready any earlier. I was using my husband’s car while my car was being repaired. A week after my car was taken away, I had just returned home after taking my husband and daughter to the bus stop. I received a call just as I was pulling up at home that my daughter had missed her bus. I asked if my husband could take our daughter to school if I brought his car to him. He said yes. So, I did not have a car for that day. I had an appointment that afternoon and I could not walk to that place. Checking public transport, I realised I had to take two buses to get to my appointment. This appointment was very important to me. I usually have a plan B which would have been to reschedule the appointment but, on this day, I decided I would stick with plan A which was to keep the appointment. I told my parents who were visiting us that it would take me an hour to get there but I would go. We discussed how easy it would have been if I had my car with me that day. Instead of dwelling on what I did not have, I chose to focus on how to get to my appointment. I also remembered that the repairer would call me once the car was ready. About an hour after this, I had a call from the repair company saying my car was ready. I thanked the lady who rang and felt so elated that focussing on how to accomplish something would shift everything around me so that everything was working for me. Try it yourself. Focus on what is working in your life rather than what is not. You will experience a Shift within and you will find out that everything in your Life is in working order 😊 Just because a situation is tense, I don’t have to give up my calm
Just because somebody is in despair, I don’t have to let go of hope Just because it is peak hour traffic, I don’t have to rush Just because there is hatred in the world, I don’t have to lose my love for life Just because there is war in the world, I don’t have to lose my peace Just because I am me, I can be peaceful, joyous and loving – just the way I was created Just because I am me, I can spread hope, love, trust, joy and peace - to help make the world just as it is meant to be My father told me a story about how he faced his fears when he was a child and I wanted to share that with you. This story shows how fear is only a negative thought in our mind and that thought can be changed to a positive thought and experience.
When my father was a child and growing up in a little village in India, he used to walk home from visiting his relatives or friends and sometimes it would be dark when he did so. Usually my grandfather would walk with my father and my father felt comfortable walking in the darkness. Some days when he had to walk alone, my father looked at this huge ‘thing’ and had fearful thoughts. He thought it was something sinister. After a few days of feeling fearful, he mustered courage and walked up to this ‘thing’ and poked it. He then realised that this was the banyan tree that he always saw on his way home. He hugged the tree feeling very happy, picked up a stick and drew a face on that tree to make it friendlier. After that day, he never felt fearful during the nights that he used to walk home alone. |
