My daughter and I were on a walk last week. My daughter started talking about the bus journey to and from school. She said “Mum, did you know that we have a different bus in the mornings now? Did the school tell you about this?”. I replied in the negative.
She went on to tell me about how the bus was not as clean as the one before, how the bus driver did not greet the kids unlike the previous driver etc.
I had a flashback. I told her about my bus travel to school in India in public transport. I spoke about how some of the drivers and conductors (ticket issuers) would be very friendly and help kids find spots for their large bags/back packs on the bus. Some of the seated passengers would also volunteer to hold our bags. I also told her there were some who could be rude and shove the kids and their bags around. I told her I try to only remember attitudes of the wonderful passengers, drivers etc., that crossed paths with me during my school travels.
A light bulb went on for her and she said “So, you mean only think about the good?”. I said “Yes, that’s what you could do”. She agreed to that.
Focusing on what is working or what’s good for us helps us let go of the trauma of thinking about negative things that may have happened to us or around us. Focussing on good also attracts more good.
Give it a go. Try thinking positive. Replace negative thoughts immediately with positive thoughts. Notice how good it feels.
